US scores dead last in global health survey

(NaturalNews) The Commonwealth Fund recently released a report that places the U.S. last among six other developed countries in terms of quality of health care. According to the report, U.S. health care costs are roughly twice as much as they are in other countries, but the care is not as good or as efficient.

The report includes comparisons between the U.S. health care system and those of Australia, Canada, Germany, the Netherlands, New Zealand, and the U.K. However the criteria used by the foundation to assess and score the countries is based more on differing health care philosophies among nations rather than actual quality of care.

In fact, all the other nations included in the survey have "global medical insurance", which is noted in the report as being one of the biggest differences. It does mention, however, that the "health reform legislation" recently passed in the U.S. will help to bump it up some in the foundation's view.

Global Health Insurance Essential For Travelers

It is obvious that global medical insurance is becoming a very important issue. It is especially those who travel internationally who become very aware of how important it is to understand what is happening in the world regarding health. This becomes even more essential if you travel to parts of the globe where there are entrenched diseases like malaria, HIV Aids and outbreaks of specific diseases.

In fact, no matter where you may travel you should have health insurance that covers you no matter what may happen.
If you are traveling a foreign country then make sure you let your insurance provider know so they can come up with a proper plan. There are many countries that require visitors to have medical cover before they are allowed entrance. This is because that country does not want to be held liable for the medical costs of visitors. Fortunately, you can get all the cover you need from a local health insurance provider before you depart for your destination.
To make it even more convenient it is possible for your travel insurance to combine in order to provide you with even more cover. You can have insurance that pays for hospital fees, doctors' fees and even a medical flight to the nearest suitable medical facility should you need it. Along with medical cover you will also receive cover in the event of your luggage being lost or stolen.

This would include cameras, laptops and cell phones. This combined category of insurance for the traveler ensures you will not be responsible for any costs you may incur in this regard. There is no question that having global health insurance could save you a great deal of money in the event of any unexpected accident or illness. Having the added benefit of cover against theft, loss or damage gives you peace of mind wherever you may travel.

Make Global Medical Insurance Part of Your International Travel Plans

In recent years, travelers have been swept up in concern over easily-transmittable illnesses like avian flu and swine flu. Rather than not traveling at all because of fear of contracting a virus, the best course of action for travelers is to prepare ahead of time for their trip. This includes getting their own health checked out ahead of time, studying up on common health problems faced by tourists in their destination country, checking for the latest information on factors like weather in that country, and buying travel or global medical insurance.

You can begin preparing for your international travel adventure by getting a checkup with your primary physician. This way you can treat any developing illnesses before you leave. This will help make sure that you don't exacerbate any conditions while traveling. You can also share this information with your travel insurance company ahead of time so they're aware of any preexisting conditions.

The next logical step in preparing is to learn about common health problems faced by tourists who are visiting the country you're heading to. Are there certain airborne viruses to be wary of? Should you avoid the local water supply? You may wish to consult with a rep from your travel or global medical insurance company, as they have experience working with people visiting many of the most popular destinations in the world.

Then, just before you depart, check the latest news from the country you're visiting. Are there climate shifts occurring that could impact your health like a sudden drop in temperature? Is it flu season in the place you're visiting? This is all good information to have on hand so you can be prepared for your visit.

Again, your travel insurance representative can help you stay abreast on the latest international goings-on.
Buying travel medical insurance is the last, and perhaps most important, step in getting ready for international travel. Because for all the preparation work you can do ahead of time, you can never guarantee that you won't get injured or become sick while traveling. And if you do need to visit the doctor or the hospital, being uninsured will be a very costly experience.

Rather than get stuck with a huge medical bill because your insurance doesn't cover you outside of your home country, buy a travel medical insurance policy and make sure that affordable high-quality medical coverage is always available to you.

You can buy travel or global medical insurance online from a number of different providers. Be sure to research your purchase ahead of time by browsing pricing details and plan features online. Most companies will post detailed information about their policies, and they're also happy to take further questions via e-mail or telephone.

Travel insurance will save you money should the unforeseen occur, and it will give you peace of mind while traveling. The last thing you want to do on your exciting trip abroad is to spend time thinking about how you would afford expensive medical bills. Eliminate that worry with a travelers medical insurance policy.
